The fast pace of modern life brings significant mental pressures, physical disorders, anxiety, and severe depression. The disadvantaged suffer, but even those with wealth are not content. How can we achieve a worry-free, healthy, and happy life? How can we avoid the sufferings of aging and illness? How can we respond wisely to the various challenges of life?

On this, each religion enriches life and uplifts the spirit through divine true love. Buddhism is no exception, with compassion as the guiding principle and in using expedient methods. Pure Land Buddhism offers unsurpassed compassion and expedience.

Pure Land Buddhism was established by Amitabha Buddha as a path to enlightenment for all living beings to realise wisdom, true benefits, and real merits. During Amitabha Buddha's causal stage, before he became a Buddha, he learned teachings from Lokesvara Buddha and developed the great aspiration to help all those in suffering achieve ultimate happiness and all living beings to become Buddhas. Consequently, Amitabha Buddha made forty-eight vows, and over five kalpas established the Land of Ultimate Bliss with truth, virtue, and beauty.

The land is known as the Land of Ultimate Bliss because there is happiness without any suffering at all. Any person is able to reach the Land of Ultimate Bliss as long as they believe in its existence and the existence of Amitabha Buddha, and vow to be reborn in the Pure Land, another name for the Land of Ultimate Bliss. More importantly, they will continue learning in the Land of Ultimate Bliss until they attain enlightenment and become a Buddha just like Amitabha Buddha. They will then be able to return to this world called Endurance to help living beings.

This land is known as the Land of Ultimate Bliss because there is happiness without any suffering at all. This land is also known as the Pure Land.

Going to the Land of Ultimate Bliss happens while one is alive. As we breathe our last breath, we actually see Amitabha Buddha coming to receive us. We abandon our body and transition into a new form with infinite life and wisdom in a lotus flower that takes us to the Land of Ultimate Bliss. Pure Land Buddhism is thus a teaching of the Buddha that helps us become a Buddha in one lifetime.

Moreover, the practice of Pure Land Buddhism is extremely convenient as we only need to be mindful of Amitabha Buddha. Everyone can be mindful of Amitabha and do so at any time. It is suitable for the hectic pace of life today. Being mindful of Amitabha Buddha helps us maintain thoughts of complete purity and virtue at all times, and forget about illness and worry. Hence, the Buddha predicted that after his entering parinirvana, in the Dharma-ending period, which covers 9000 years, an age we are now in, most of us can only succeed through Pure Land Buddhism.

Having the opportunity to encounter this unsurpassed Buddhist method today, one should let go of attachments, firmly believe, vow to be born in the Land of Ultimate Bliss, and be sincerely mindful of the Buddha. One should regard this as the most important matter in life—leaving all suffering behind, attaining eternal life, realising perfect enlightenment, and helping all living beings.
